Joust Joystick Pictures
« on: December 06, 2007, 03:07:32 pm »
I posted a thread earlier about rebuilding / replacing Joust Cocktail joyticks. I would like to replace the switches with micro switches if possible. I am trying to retain my original sticks since they match the machine. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.
I only have about 2.5 inches under the CP to work with.
                                                                                                Thank you

I just went back and read your other post,   if this machine is staying a Joust (I hope it is!  :)  )   why not rebuild your original sticks?

www.arcadeshop.com has everything you need to make those original sticks work and feel like brand new.

The cocktail sticks are little more than a pair of leaf switches -- if performance is an issue, I would drop in a new pair of leafs, adjust them and call it a day.

Why do you want to put in microswitches ?

I was not sure if new microswitches would be easier to repair/replace in the future.  :dunno
I am keeping the game as original as possible but I have not been able to find a rebuild kit such as the ones made for the upright Williams games. The machine works pretty well but the left joystick is dead at the moment. Someone had attempted to work on the joysticks before I purchased the game.
What is the best way to make sure I get the correct length leaf to replace these? I am new to working on games and don't know much about the control systems.

You're not getting any of my leafs !

Why not......?  No, I'm not going for the zillionth re-run of the microswitch versus leaf debate.....do some searching on leaf & microswitch and you will find the pro's and con's.

The leafs look fine on the picture, there must be something else wrong with the joystick ?

Could be dirty contacts or bad solder joint ...

Could be the game pcb.

Like I mentioned above,  arcadeshop should have the correct leafs,  they used to have the mechanical parts/pivots for the cocktails as well,  email or call and ask.

I'm sure you can match leafs up by length at a number of pinball parts suppliers.

As to comments about some other problem causing your non-functional stick,  there are numerous things that can cause this, but these machines tend to be riddled with connection issues.  I would start by going over the widget board connections.  Sometimes just reseating the connectors can clear things up.
