Shutting down PC with your frontend?
« on: May 11, 2003, 12:21:36 pm »
Is there any frontends that incude this as standard?
It seems to me that anyone with windows could use this feature.

My understanding of being able to do this currently through your frontend you'd have to:
1. Trackdown the executable that initiates the windows shutdown. There IS one out there isn't there?
2. Then make a little bat file to run it.
3. Then have it as a option to run it on your frontend. I suppose currently your frontend would have to be able to run command lines and instead of setting up another emulator or running a pc program,  you would call the screen Shut Down and you could run your batch routine from it.

Am I very far off base? Does any frontend include this as standard?
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

I know that MAMEWAH does this.  When exiting the FE, it gives you the option to exit back into Windows or to shut down the PC.  There is another exit option, too, but I can't remember exactly what it is.

There are a couple other FE's with this option, too, but I can't recall right at the moment.

Oo, thats cool. Can the "exit back to windows" function be turned off? I'd like windows to remain in the background so my guests don't stumble into it by accident. I'd like my cabinet to use windows as only an "administrator" priviledge.  ;)

The other option in the exit menu is "Exit and reboot PC".  I don't see anywhere in the config file an option to customize the Exit menu, but perhaps this could be a feature Minwah could add?  Shoot him an email, I think he's currently working on an update to MAMEWAH.

I have my machine setup so that you CANNOT exit the FE (Emulaxian).  To shut down the computer you just push the power button and Windows performs a graceful shutdown automatically and the rest of the cabinet shuts down with it.  The only configuring you have to do for this is to turn off the option to exit the FE.  Emulaxian has this built-in.  I don't know about other FEs though.

AdvanceMenu you can also set a Exit/PowerDown event, i think its ctrl+esc  by default, which would be handy if using the mame defaults since p1b1 is ctrl
