shutdown by one button?
« on: November 29, 2007, 04:52:58 am »
i found the way to create shortcut on desltop to shutdown pc with one click.  what i want to know is if there is a way to assign a keystroke for that purpose.

i have an exit button on my CP which is the escape key, if someone presses it it exits Mgalaxy (with confirmation) then goes to desktop, id like to be able to press it one more time to goto straight to window shutdown.  possible ?

If you right click the shortcut and select properties, you can set the shortkey for that shortcut. It needs to be a CTRl+ALT combination and the ESC key is not allowed.

Windows XP has the option if you go into Control Panel ->Power Options->Advanced.
You'll see a drop down that says "When I press the power button on my computer:"
You can set that for shut down.

I cut the power connector leads and wire them to a momentary button put in an inconspicuous place on top of the cabinet. I prefer a smaller, recessed button, but you can even use an arcade button if you want.
Its a little more work than your shortcut, but it gives you one button power up and down.

Just change "hibernate" to "shutdown".

When you tell windows to shutdown from the power button it does a regular shutdown, it will boot up normally after.
