Plasma TV repair site?
« on: November 27, 2007, 03:19:00 pm »
So i just purchased a broken 42" plasma tv from work, and i am trying to find a way to possibly fix it.  I was wondering if anybody knew of a good site or forum for troubleshooting and repair information on plasmas.  I searched around on the internet a bit but couldn't find anything really..

the problem i'm having is that all whites and lighter colors display with pink noise.  Darker colors look fine, but any whites will have some pretty horrible pink and red garbage display along with a bit of ghosting from the previous object i was watching. ( kind of like a temporary screen burn )

i am currently running "jfixscreen", and app i found, but i dont think it will do much for me cause its mostly for fixing "stuck" pixels and screen burn.

Just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a good site to get some info....

thanks!

What brand of plasma is it?  www.agoraquest.com is a good sony resource, and the plasma forum over at avsforum.com might be helpful as well.  I'd start with a search for your brand/model number and if that's fruitless, start a new thread with an informative title like "Troubleshooting image problems on XXXX model plasma", not "Help!" or something obscure.

Plasmas are like computers; a bunch of cards connected with edge and ribbon connectors.  Not that hard to replace components, but figuring out what's not working is the tough part.   You might also do a google search and/or contact the manufacturer for a service manual.

Not that this will help much, but when your whites are turning pink, theres something wrong with the green.

hey thanks for the site link.  I'll start looking around there.  I realize that my description of the problem/brand of tv was vague, but it was cause i was mostly looking for a site for information on plasmas/lcds and troubleshooting. I just included a description of my problem to help narrow down what I was looking for. Even if I find discover someone else with my tv that is having the same problem, it would be useful to find a general tv troubleshooting info website.

I already got the service manual on google, and most of the hits i got when searching for the model/make of the tv were about configuration issues.  I have only really screwed around with CRTs ( tho i did rebuild an LCD yesterday ) and i was looking for a place to brush up on the technology and hopefully be able to fix my problem in the process.

justa bit of info too. plasmas' whites do run pink, if you get me. ive seen multi screen plasma walls in av presentation situations and the operators always moan that some screens just look pinker than others, its really hard to get each individual plasma panel equally white. some just look pink , this as well, bear in mind, is multiple versions of the exact same screen , that the engineers couldnt balance to each other.
got COLOR codes from projects, post them here

add stuff to the uk wiki section

yeah if the color was just off, it wouldn't bother me too much...but this pink noise on boarderline unwatchable when surfing around on the web and makes movies look terrible when whites come into play etc. also the pixilation is not constant throughout the display, there are patches where it is much worse, and some area's that are not even effected....
