360 Rockband Guitar Controller - Works on PC?
« on: November 21, 2007, 09:27:24 am »
Anyone have RockBand for the 360 - and willing to try plugging the guitar into a PC and see how it appears to the computer and if it even works?

I'm thinking of getting a guitar controller for FoF, and need to decide between the GH3 Xbox360/PC guitar and the Rockband one.  The Rockband one is better, but it isn't out seperately yet and it's not clear that it will work on a PC.

Thanks!

I've played Guitar Hero since the first one came out.  The Rock Band guitar doesn't play as well as the X-plorer controller IMHO.  However, if you started with that, it might never feel weird to you.

Really?  I've read the opposite...that the overall feel of the Rockband guitar is more like a real guitar and it's made a bit sturdier.  And everone complains the Xplorer is the worst of the GH ones ;)

I think it's all what you're used to.  Both my friend and I played Rock Band from 2PM to 10PM yesterday.  About an hour into it we ditched the RockBand guitar and went back to the X-plorer.  I do know the Xplorer controller works in FoF.

Now, having said all that, I absolutely DO NOT CARE what guitar you use.  It doesn't affect me at all and I won't lose a moment's sleep over whether or not you agree with my assessment.

I HATE the X-plorer guitar, but love the Les Paul.

The only problem I have with the RB Strat, is that it is wired.

I am able to adjust to either guitar rather easily, but my son definitely has a tougher time with the strum bar on the strat.

As for whether it works on the PC or not...

I will check right after this post.

OK, I plugged it into the PC, and...

It works just fine. I am using the MS 360 controller drivers.

Thanks versa.  Now to find out if it works with GH3 (PC) and find out when it's going to be released.  Very cool stuff.

This is definitely a big thing, IMHO.  Redefines what's possible with Stepmania and the drum set!

Anyone tested using the 360 guitars on the PC for GTH3 yet??? I just installed the game on my arcade cab, and I've been wanting to get a guitar to play alittle better than I can with a joystick and arcade buttons :)

Just wanna make sure they work before i run out and get one

I haven't tried it, but I figure if it lets you assign buttons, then it will work.

The controller that comes with Guitar Hero III on the PC looks like it is just the 360 X-plorer guitar.

That's what I was thinking, only thing that is making me wonder if the regular 360 guitar works on the windows port is the fact that it seems to not recongnize a regular pc gamepad as an input choice in the game menu, so I was worried it might not see the xbox 360 guitar as a guitar.  Also wondering if 2 guitars works if one does.

I got a chance to try out the controllers in Guitar Hero III on PC today.

The game does not allow you to assign controller buttons, and the Rock Band guitar does NOT work with the game.

Both the 360 X-plorer and Les Paul guitars work just fine.

This is pretty much the exact same scenario as the 360 version, so it isn't all that surprising, but I did expect to see a little more configurability on the PC version.
