Need a little Help
« on: November 19, 2007, 11:35:21 am »
Question #1
Is there a way to Boot Windows XP on an Arcade monitor without using J-Pac?? Is there a way to create a Custom Boot Screen with Low Res support?

I can setup my PC to autologin and Start MaLa which is not an issue, it is just an issue until it gets to that point. Which Typically takes about 40 seconds or so where the Monitor will be receiving a Higher signal and gives out a garbled picture. With that being said will that Ruin my Arcade Monitor if I startup my PC a bunch of times with the wrong signal going to the Monitor?

Question #2
I am Using Mame32 with Soft 15Khz and Powerstrip for custom resolutions. I am having trouble finding the perfect Resolutions for the Street Fighter Series and NBa Jam/Mortal Kombat Series. I can get some what close the picture either fills too much of the screen where some of the picture is not shown or there are very noticable black borders.

The Mame settings are set to:
DirectDraw
Stretch Using Hardware = OFF
Switch Resolutions to fit = ON

The Original Resolutions for the games are:
Street Fighter Series - 384 x 224 or 768 x 224(With Doubled H Value)
NBA Jam/MK Series -    399 x 253 or 798 x 253(With Doubled H Value)

Similar Arcade VGA Resolutions:
NBA Jam/MK Series - 400 X 256
Street Fighter Series - 384 x 288

What Resolutions should I try adding?? Will it be possible to add the Original Resolutions and/or with Doubled H Values?

When I get home I will post what Resolutions I have tried using that are close.

After some testing and playing around with Powerstrip I am close to perfect results.

Here the best resolutions I am using so far:

Street Fighter Series - 768 x 240 (The Top and Bottom of the screen have some noticable blackborders)

NBA Jam/MK Series - 800 x 254 (Fills the entire screen without borders. The Screen at the bottom appears to be a little squished. So maybe it fills the screen a little too much??)

If I try to add 768 x 224, which would be perfect for Street Fighter, The image becomes a little distorted. The top right corner is pretty wavy. It appears to fill the screen, as it is the exact resoultion, but I cannot use the distorted image.

Are there other Resolutions I can try adding.??

I am not much qualified to give advice since I don't even have a monitor yet but, have you tried the following with Soft-15kHz:
Street Fighter II (CPS1/2): 392 x 240 @ 60Hz
Mortal Kombat: 401 x 256 @ 53Hz
The second one is supposed to be especially for MK

If nothing else works, you can try to add your own modeline in a textfile, call it custom15khz.txt, place it in the same directoy as 15KHz and press the install 15kHz button to include your new resolution.
Here is a tutorial on how to create your own modeline:
http://community.arcadeinfo.de/showthread.php?t=7921
The modeline should like this example:
Modeline "320x240@60" 6,86 320 359 399 438 240 242 245 261 -hsync -vsync

I am trying to get Killer Instinct, Vitrua Fighter, and some older games like Capcom Blowling to display on the arcade monitor but cannot seem to get anwhere with these either.

It will either Load the game and be very small or it will start to load the game and go right back to MAME.

Here are the resolutions:

Killer Instinct - 320x240 @ 60Hz
Virtua Fighter - 496x384 @ 60Hz
Capcom Bowling - 245x360 @ 57Hz

I guess my question is what Resolution should be used?? Do I need to add Intelaced Resolutions? I just can't figure out why I cannot display these games properly.

Any one using an Arcade VGA Have success with these games?? If so what Resolution are you using?
