Seems to me this is a good thing for MLB.
Since Barry's not employed by any club, indicting him now shields everyone from the circus that is about to ensue.  And since it basically ends his career regardless of the outcome, MLB can finally put this to rest.
Bringing to life a child's imagination.

The guy who just broke the most prestigious record in the game is going to prison... soon.  How exactly is that good for MLB?

It won't even matter that he is going to prison for nonbaseball related charges... the whole story will be about the gov't having proof he lied to a jury, and unfortunately, he lied about having abused steroids.  When that comes out, incontrovertible proof that their all time homerun leader was a steroid abuser, it will hit MLB hard.

Bonds has nothing to worry about - Victor Conte says he'll get off scott free.
