Visual Pinball project
« on: November 15, 2007, 11:33:57 am »
I am beginning a Visual Pinball project.

More than likely, it is going to end up a bartop...mostly due to space....though I do have space in the garage and may consider moving my other cabinets into the garage and make a mini arcade.

Anyway...back to the project. I am planning on using a spare 21" CRT monitor for the visuals, I am also tossing the idea of using one of those LED reader boards for a marque, rather than a traditional backlit marque. Not sure about the price on those yet, so I am still unsure on that.

I am currently in the process of mocking up the controls. I have a pinball shooter from Happ. The end of the shooter will be depressing a pushbutton. Since VPin detects the plunger as a button press and applies force according to how long you hold down that button I have set the microswitch to NC so while depressed, no signal is sent out. When you pull back the plunger, it sends a signal to VPin and then you release the plunger and Wham-O! Your ball is shot. I tested this out with a microswitch in my hand last night and it worked great.

I will be posting pictures of the mock up shortly

I have an extra standard sized pinball lockdown bar for sale in the FS board, I think I was asking $20 shipped.  It's around 21" wide, FYI.  If making a VPin project, you NEED a real lockdown bar. ;)

21" is sure going to be big.

Im using a 21" CRT in my cocktail and its 500mm cubed (20") and it will only just fit inside my cabinet.  Im guessing with the extra space below the screen for the controls etc your going to me looking at a bartop thats about 25" tall  :o

Good luck with the project  :)

Well, obviously I didn't get it done before Thanksgiving....

I had in laws in town all week and then it started getting cold around here....hard to get myself motivated to get out in the garage when it is cold like that....supposed to warm up a bit next week....I am planning on getting the mock up built this week if it does warm up.

I could show you the top panel.....I have that finished....it has four buttons. It's thrilling!

The top panel is really nothing more than admin buttons....scroll up/down through the menu, start and coin. Pretty exciting, eh?
