WG U3000 question regarding picture.
« on: November 13, 2007, 12:25:18 pm »
Hello, I actually tried to hook up the monitor last night and had some issues, I hope you can clarify what I am doing wrong.

I am trying to hook up a U3000 monitor to a computer. The computer has the Arcadevga card from www.ultimarc.com, and I also have a G-force video card.

I will eventually be using the arcadevga, which will give me a resolution of 640 x 480 which the G-force card will not do, however I am still waiting on a special connector. So in the meantime I am using the G-force card. So the resolution is going to be a bit high (800 x 600 or close to it)

Attached are a couple of pictures I snapped last night. One shows the connector that came with the monitor and the other shows my male connector that is part of the monitor. The way I have this hooked up is as follows, I have the connector seen in the photo spliced together with a VGA cable which will hook into the computer. Red to Red, Green to Green, Blue to Blue, Ground to Ground (black wire), and Composite Sync (white wire) to the vga horizontal and vertical sync. (I twisted both the hor and vert of the vga wire and combined them with the composite sync that goes into the monitor this is where I may have the problem).

When I turn on the monitor and computer the boot screen comes up fine, as does the windows loading. however there is two pictures, one on the left side of the screen and one on the right. When windows goes into the "welcome screen" and the desktop, everything gets scrambled pretty good. Now how much is this related to the Ge-force card that is outputting a higher resolution, and how much is the wiring (more specifically the vert and horiz)?

Take a look at the pics attached and let me know. I really really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Sounds like a resolution issue.
Have you tried any lower resolutions?

The specs for a 27" model are:
RESOLUTION
Graphics modes: VGA: 640 X 200, 640 X 350, 640 X 480

The smaller 19" and 17" list an SVGA mode of 880x600

Not sure if any of this helps.

yes, I kind of figured that is why I get a scrambled mess... however do you know why I have two images, one on the left of the screen and one on the right? Is my Vert and hor correct?

Btw this is a 33" monitor if that makes any difference.

you can get that when you pump a higher signal into the monitor than it can handle or is set to....

wow so what you are saying, if I have a lower res computer that should kill both problems? How great would that be?

no i am just saying that when you pump a med res game signal into a standard res monitor you get an image overlap....

The reason being is that the horizontal sync and vertical sync signals coming from the computer are not triggering the guns to reset for the for the next pass at the correct time.  The computer thinks it has more lines to draw on....

The double image is generally because of the wrong resolution.
For instance - If you try running a pc vga signal out to a standard arcade monitor you will get double image. VGA is 31khz, Arcade Standard is 15khz. Since the vga signal is approximately DOUBLE the arcade standard..... you get DOUBLE image.
(that was the simplified cut and dry non-technical explanation of course)

Are you positive you have a U3000?
What is the P??? number on the main chassis?
Have you tried lowering your Windows display resolution?
(or is 800x600 as low as it will allow?)

800X600 was as low as it goes... I do have an arcadevga card that will solve this, but since my monitor is vga, I need that adaptar  that transfers the VGA signal into the DVI port. So once I do that I should have a lower resolution, thus my monitor should be able to handle it.

I did buy a connector for VGA to DVI, but it doesn't work at all... so I am trying to get a hold Andy from ultimarc to see what he recomends.

I am pretty positive it's a U3000 I don't have the part number here at work, but if you want to see pictures check out these links to my machine.
The guys at Wells Gardner say it's thiers. As well.

Well, I got the Arcadevga card up and running, and this did correct my picture, thanks to everyone who helped.

I have a couple questions. My monitor is a bit dim, and has a sort of hourglass effect... is there anything I can do to fix that? How serious is that, as far as monitor health is concerned?
