Do I really NEED an ArcadeVGA for my Kortek 2914?
« on: November 09, 2007, 03:24:19 pm »
Ok, as the topic states I had a 27" kortek 2914 multisync monitor.  I have three video cards at my disposal.  An ATI Rage 128, a Geforce TI4200 and a Geforce 6800OC..   I'm running XP.  I want to get the closest resolution without using hardware stretching/scaling/filtering etc.  I dont mind if its some integer multiple of the original resolution..  so if the game was 320x240 and Mame ran it 640x480 that's fine.  I just want pixellated scanline-y goodness! :D  If I'd be better off selling all these and just buying an ArcadeVGA than that's what I'll do but I was under the impression that a multisync didn't really need it.

It depends how technically savvy you are.  Multisync or not, you still want a card capable of CGA resolutions.  You can always try out the Soft15Khz program that let's most regular video cards display CGA resolutions.  If that doesn't work, just get the AVGA which has those resolutions built in.

thanks.. I have 3 video cards I can try before getting the ArcadeVGA.  So I guess I'll try soft15khz first, then powerstrip before buy any more hardware.  I AM tech savvy but I'm also very impatient! ;)
