Any time a manufacturer has to repair a monitor, it must be considered a refurb. Basically, a refurbed monitor is the same as a new one. If someone dropped it, and it damaged the chassis and the tube, they would prolly just send it back to be completely destroyed and rebuilt. Most refurbed are garunteed "like new". This means if somone purchases a monitor, and the board (chassis) goes bad, and the company warrenties it, sends a new monitor and takes the old one in its steed, then the company will replace the board (chassis) and sell it as refurb. This means in essence, a refurb still has "new parts". But, they lose money when a monitor needs to be warrentied (esspecially by abuse, the most common cause of monitor failure) so why would they offer a 6 or 12 month warrenty on a refurbed monitor, when its quite possible that after that time, somone could have accidently scratched the glass, ran it past the refresh limit, dropped it, etc and that person get a new monitor for their old one after them already losing money on it.
In other words, the only reason they have a one month warrenty is so that they dont lose more money, you are already getting a great deal, why throw in an extended warrenty when you are getting a like new quality monitor at a cheaper price, that would be bad business sence.
The refurbs are just as good as teh new ones, there is no /more/ a risk of it kicking the bucket, as there is with a brand new one, but if you arent paying full price, why give a full warrenty?
Ok, im ranbling... ill shut up now...
