Need help for a friend traveling to England
« on: October 29, 2007, 05:12:33 pm »
A friend is going to visit London in june and needs some help finding a good hotel and places to visit.  Does anyone on the forum have some advice for him?  I suggested finding a castle but for all i know they might be nowhere near london.  cheers

hotels depend on budget, the grosvener on park lane is good hotel but its £400 a night, other areas of london can be got for about £60 a night.
as for places to visit, how long have they got, london is full of interesting stuff, including castles.

there are some pretty grim places in london, don't go anywhere near peckham :(
to be honest its better to stay outside london and just travel in by train
windsor is a real nice place to stay
places like barnes bridge and kew are pretty nice if he wants to be in london
chelsea/fulham area is good as well
there is a hotel at chelsea football club  :applaud: which is real nice and a good base to travel from and he can see some REAL football as well
best bet is find out what he wants to visit and i can tell you if its crap or not

I can vouch for fulham - coz that's where I live.  And Kew is near where I work and that is also a nice place.

There's plenty of Holiday Inn's around the place which aren't to bad to stay in.

I'm going to say stay somewhere in greater london area because getting around by bus and tube is too easy.  The further out the higher chance you'll need to get the overground trains and then you end up spending most of the sight seeing time on public transport.  Plus if your friend is going to go out and get on the booze in London then it's alot easier to get back.

What's your friends budget?  I used to stay at some pretty cool hostles right in the center of the city.

I think I paid 10-16 GBP per night and it included some sort of paltry breakfast. (Stay away from the long life milk)

I also used to occasionally find a cheap hotel with a bathroom en suite and I think that was around 60 to 80 GBP.

As for the sights there's so much to do I lived there for a year and still have not seen it all. Depending on what you like Museums(The British museium is cool if you like that sort of thing), castles, shows...I particularly like the Shakspears "globe" theater.  The "Jack the ripper tours can be fun" and/or some double decker tourbus action.
