MAME32 - Gettin rid of unwanted ROMS
« on: October 28, 2007, 12:11:16 am »
I am using MAME32 as my current front end.  I've not built a CP just yet, but am still playing with a mouse/joypad, so for now MAME32 will be plenty sufficient for me to play on.  Problem is, I have lots of games that I do not want, and its becoming a pain to pick through them all to find the good stuff.

I can right-click on different games in my list, and I see an option to "Remove from this folder" but it is grayed out (this is in any folder that is not user made).  I can make a "Favorites" folder, and drag/drop the games I want over there, but then I'm afraid I'll miss too much of the stuff that I want.  I would think it would be much easier to pick and delete all the garbage games that I didn't want from one big list, than to build a "favorites" list.

I also have some of the "Extras", such as CP/Art/Snaps/etc. for some games in question.  I have tried removing the game ROM and all the extras associated with it, but it will still show up in my game list, even after an audit.

Does anyone know where MAME32 stores the listing that is shown in the "favorites" folder?  I have thought of copying/pasting the game list (if I could find it) to my favorites list, then delete the ones I dont want, one by one.

TIA

I'm still trying to figure out if there is a way to create my own folders.

Go into your root menu for Mame32 and find the "folders" icon.  Open it and add your customer files....

If you go into your "folders" directory, you can open the "favorites" and edit there.  That's probably the easiest way.  You can also use a Rom manager to help remove items that you dont want (ie adult games, mahjong games etc).

Ahhh yes, exactly what I was looking for.  I took my main listing from the MAME32ui.ini file in the MAME32 folder, imported into excel, did a few quick find + replace to remove unneeded info, repasted the cleaned up data back into my favorites.ini file, and made an exact duplicate of my "All games" list, only now I am able to "remove from this folder" at will   ;)  Thanks for the info, you saved me ALOT of time  :notworthy:
