Someone recommend a good pci video card for soft 15khz
« on: October 25, 2007, 04:55:35 pm »
Hi all,
I have two old Dell Optiplex GX115 pc's that I am going to put in my cabinets. They are old 600mhz desktop cases, and only have pci slots, so I have to use pci video cards.

So basically, can anyone offer a pci card that works well with soft15khz?

Okay, here are two that are available on ebay buy it now for decent prices. Should both of these work?

ATI 3D Rage II+DVD 64-bit 4MB PCI Video Card

ATI Rage 3D Rage LT Pro 8MB PCI Video Card

I believe any one of those would be okay.  The first one will be fine.

Thanks for the help Peale!

i fear you won't have any luck with those cards.
soft-15khz only works with ati RADEON cards, but not RAGE.

the rage series does not support custom resolutions :(
I do all that stuff even without a Joystick ;)

Well, crap...where were you a month ago?  :D

Any hopes of putting these modes into Soft15KHz anyway?  I use the Rage chipset in all my cabs so far.

I guess I don't understand how Soft15KHz works; I thought there was a card database within it?

Soft-15kHz changes registry keys within the drivers. It would work with Rage cards, but only modify default resolutions (512x384, 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768).

So the resolutions that the card supports aren't limited to the chipset, it's a driver issue?  Because in DOS I can get my Rage cards to some funky resolutions.

I'd still like to see these cards supported in Soft15KHz.  Though you wouldn't have the funky resolutions, getting 15KHz would still be awesome.

Sorry, shardian.  I could not help but laugh when I read your response.  It was funny in a sitcom kind of way but sad at the same time.
However, there might be hope for you yet.  Take a look at my recent post about WinModelines and see if that works for you:

Best of luck.
