ATI Radeon 7500 LE + DOS + ArcadeOS
« on: May 06, 2003, 11:25:24 am »
Not sure if this is the right forum or not (Admins please move if I'm in the wrong place) but I'm having problems with my Radeon 7500LE.  I'm running DOs with ArcadeOS as a front end.  I have no problems displaying on a monitor, I can play games just fine.  But when I use the s-video out on the 7500, I can see the boot-up and ArcadeOS screens fine, but the screen just goes dead and the system freezes when I run any games.  I went looking through the product docs for the radeon, but all they say is that under DOS the card will run with it's factory default settings.  Does anybody know what those settings are?

I've tried running MAME with a variety of settings, tweak, notweak, stretch, nostretch, low-resolutions, fixed resolutions.  Nothing seems to work.  I'm sure it's some simple setting I'm overlooking, but my progress:frustration ratio was too low to do anymore troubleshooting on it last night.

In a month when I get some more cash together I'm going to upgrade the processor and memory on this system to the point where I can run Windows+mame and use the ATI drivers to run the TV-out at a better resolution.

There is an issue with the Radeon VE and 7500 s-video out and dos. If you search through the forums you will find info on it. Especially on the old boards. Easiest way to fix your problem is ditch dos and go to win98, 2000 or XP. Mame runs better in it anyways unless you have a really slow computer.

Searched the forums and the old forums, but didn't get all the way through the archives.  My plan is to ditch DOS once I get the new motherboard (currently the system is a Celeron 366, new system will be 1.4 GHz), but your message just confirms what I had suspected, that there is an s-video issue with the 7500's in DOS.

Well, I suppose I should go ahead and build out the OS and front-end on the old system in preparation for the new processor.  Thanks again!
