I Have to at least try the inversion circuit!
« on: May 05, 2003, 11:39:52 pm »
After much deliberation i've decided (90% decided) i want to attempt to build the inversion circuit for nintendo monitors. Before i decide the other 10 percent, i just want to know what the limitations are on a arcade monitor vs. tv or pc. If there arent too bad and someone can help me with this inversion circuit, i would be eternally greatful. I really want to keep my monitor if its possible.

An arcade monitor is much lower resolution than a PC monitor.    You are limited to about 288 vertical lines.    They also run at 15Khz, instead of 31Khz.  Small text would probably be illegible, but for games, they really do look like the real thing.

If you are new to Arcade Monitors, and want to use an Arcade Monitor, in your cab, the easiest way is to buy an ArcadeVGA card from www.ultimarc.com.   It has 15Khz out, and you can even load windows on it, plus it has special video mode drivers, to work with arcade monitors, for common MAME and other emu modes.  It is probably one of the safest ways of connecting an arcade monitor.

As for color inversion, this circuit should do the job.   See http://www.arcadecollecting.com/info/Nintendo-color-invert.txt for details.    You need 3 LM318 Op Amps, 9 resistors, and to connect to your computers -5V, +12V and -12V lines from your power supply.
