Gauntlet Legends - Picture off screen
« on: October 19, 2007, 03:18:50 pm »
Hey everyone, I need a little help from people with a bit more experience than myself.  Seeing as that's just about everyone, I guess I'm in the right place.  I recently purchased a Gauntlet Legends: Dark Legacy cabinet from a location listed on NamcoArcades.com, actually, it's a Gauntlet Legends cabinet with the conversion kit upgrade for GL:DL.

The problem I am encountering is that the upper and lower corners of the picture are off the screen.  I've tried playing with the remote control panel inside of the coin door and the H. Position knob is all the way to the left but the image is still not centered.  I've also tried playing with the H Size knob and it appears to do nothing, I get it to the one side and the center of the picture appears to shimmer but the image as a whole does nothing.  As a final note, the image seems to have a pretty bad hour glass figure to it, where in the middle it is on the screen but the top and bottom are stretching off the screen.  Is there any way I can fix this short of getting a new monitor?  It was a fantastic deal at $295 and the cabinet is in absolute mint condition.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, forgot to mention that the monitor in it is 27", and the manual given to me with the cabinet was for models: NT-2700/2701/2702.

sounds like the east/west correction circuit has a problem-could be a bad solder joint somewhere or possibly one the diodes or the transistor of the east/west circuit

the hour glass problem is to do with the pincushion adjustment,it is possible all you need to is locate the pincushion adjustment pot and adjust it but sometimes this problem is caused by what i wrote in my previous reply which is a bit more complicated
if you have a bad solder joint then banging the side of the cab will have an affect on the picture

Alrighty, any idea where I might find the pincushion adjustment?  I checked on the remote control board and it doesn't have one for that.  Would it be located on the monitor itself?  If so, where?  I've only taken the back panel off the cabinet once and being as this is my first cabinet, it's all Greek to me.

Ok, I am an idiot... I was just staring at the remote adjustment panel inside the coin door and noticed that the top row has 5 knobs, where the bottom only has 4.  Upon looking in the manual I saw that the missing knob on the bottom row is for the Pin Cush adjustment.  Now my problem is how do I add a knob there so I can make adjustments?  Is it as simple as going to an electronics store and sodering it on or what?  Thank you again everyone for all your help, I hope this is the light at the end of the tunnel.

the manual should tell you the value of the adjustment pot i.e 100kohms,once you know the correct value it really is as easy as getting one and soldering it in
does your remote board have a place for the pincushion pot,the 3 solder pads?

I checked the manual and it says that it's 500 ohm.  And when I looked at the remote panel it certainly looked like it had 3 holes for the prongs to be inserted into.  So I'm assuming it'll be as easy as going to like Radioshack, buying the correct trimpot, and putting the prongs into the holes?  or will there likely be a bit of soldering?

you will need to solder the pot in,first you have to desolder the pin holes to allow the pot to fit in then you solder it into place
if you donīt know how to do it then get a neighbour or friend to do it

Looks like i'll have to probably order the correct 500 ohm trimmer... I checked radio shack and all they only go as low as 1k ohm.  I don't want to do anything wrong, but since they are essentially adjustable, would a 1k ohm not work?  If so, why?

do not use a 1k pot,its far too out of range for the original-it may work but i very much doubt it and to be honest you want to fix the problem not make it any more complicated

I cannot thank you enough for all your help Grant... you've been a tremendous help.  Looks like I'll be ordering the trimmer and it'll just have to wait.  :dunno
