The PPJOYKEY and NHL06 Saga Continues
« on: October 19, 2007, 08:57:52 am »
I have created 2 virtual joyticks with PPJOY which are controlled through my CP which is connected to a KE72.  The reason for this is to be able to play 2 player NHL06 on my cab.  NHL06 does not let you configure all the buttons, and you can't play a two player game with one keyboard, which is what I would do with the current setup.  So i figured I could have the two virtual joysticks which I would configure to the KE72 encoder.  I got as far as creating the two virtual joysticks and even configured them to the Control panel KE72.  The joysticks show up in windows and work fine when I go to the test mode.  Then when I fire up NHL06 the menu is just scrolling out of control like the down arrow is being held down which makes it impossible to start a game.  I did start a game and there didn't seem to havethe same problem, ie my guy wasn't skating down ice, also the same effect does not happen with MALA or MAME.  Anybody know why this would happen?

Don't know if this will help?

I know most posts revolve around questions, but I figured I would do something a little different and start a post with a solution.

I had searched the posts here, looking for information on how to setup ppjoy with virtua tennis.  The only posts I found were for an older version of virtua tennis, and someone trying desperately to get NHL06 up and running with ppjoy.  There were never any solutions posted that I could find.  That said, a little googling later and still didn't find the answer, but what I did find made me think of the solution.

Again, this is only for Virtua Tennis 3...at least that I have tried.

For whatever reason, whenever I setup ppjoy with a virtual joystick mapped to the keyboard...it would work in windows, and in the windows control panel applet, but not in game.  Hell, the game didn't even see it.  Everytime I would go to setup the controls, the 2nd player was always crossed out.  Really frustrating to say the least.  So then I stumbled on a post elsewhere that had mentioned that virtua tennis 3 for whatever reason assigns both the keyboard and the first joystick to player 1.  There is not a way to change that...dumb yes...unchangeable fact...yes as well.  So, the simple fix is to create two ppjoy virtual joysticks.  Now when in the game and you go to configure the controls for player two it will actually let you do it.

So long story short, setup two virtual joysticks in ppjoy in order to allow for multiple players in Virtua Tennis 3.

Good game, it's a shame it's not really aimed at the US market...had to import it.
