Something that actually works might be a good idea. Something that is not prone to blowing up on you at any time.
I'd go with a Wii if you don't have one already or even a PS3, they will have good games for it sooner or later.
I've said it many times on this board and i sound like a broken record already but, these Xbox's are just not reliable and i don't see why people spend good money on them.
My original comment was not really towards you guys here but more at the company, but at some point it is the customers fault for putting up with it and continually buying them.
So is this a Sony Fanboy-ism or just MS bashing? I'm sorry, but the 360 isn't the first console to have problems with the early revisions... As SirPoonga pointed out, the PS2 was notorious for DVD drive failures on their early models. Both me and my GF had early PS2s that the drive failed in, but now the later revisions are pretty solid and is still a popular console.
I've had a 360 for about a year, it gets heavy use by myself, my 2 daughters, and their friends (especially after I got Halo 3), and has held up just fine. Additionally, the 360 has some pretty damn good games frankly. I'm not an XBox fanboy, I like whatever system provides a good gaming experience (which is why I don't have a PS3 as of yet, nothing on there that really has got me fired up as of this moment that I can't already play on my 360). In the house right now, we have a 360, a Wii, 3 Modded XBoxes, 3 PS2s, 4 Dreamcasts, a gamecube, an N64, and an SNES... The X360 gets the heaviest use, followed by the PS2s right now... (unless you could media playback, then the modded XBoxes are probably used the most, that's why I modded them after all...)
