Avoid Duck Amuck for the DS
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:32:39 pm »
I try to stay away from this, I really do - but this review may shock people.  Let me say this loud and clear: THIS GAME SUCKS.

I love Looney Tunes.  I love Daffy Duck.  I'd been anxiously awaiting the merger of those two to the DS touch screen.  While the animated cut scenes are fun, the game just blows.  It took me about 2 hours to complete (real time).  Basically you just play mini games until Daffy loses his temper....and while there are quite a number of those, where the game fails is that it will let you replay the SAME mini game until Daffy loses his temper.   And once that meter hits redline, "that's all folks."  The game just up and ends.

Supposedly based on the great "Duck Amuck" cartoon, there is virtually no storyline to tie these games together.  It's just a mismash of ideas...and while some are interesting, most fail horribly. Likewise, for  me it just had no replayability level.

I've seen some reviews give this a 7 or 8 - a heads up, it's more a 3 or 4.

Coming from you, this game must REALLY, REALLY suck!  ;) ;D

Go play the new Zelda game to cleanse your pallet. I'm a little ways into it right now and love it. Really takes full advantage of the touch screen interface.

:D I knew some of you guys would be horrified that I'd rate the game so low - thanks for chipping in and NOT disappointing me!    :laugh2:  Really though, it is bad, and the price is WAY to steep for a collection of half baked mini-games ($29.95).   I would not have priced it above $19.99 myself. Like I say, the animation is great, but the games are awful.

Let me add one final thought (perhaps) here.  Where most "mini game" collections succeed is that they offer tutorials before the game starts.  There is NO in game tutorial with Duck Amuck, and that makes some of the games impossible to play. There is the old "dynamite" in the keyboard routine, but it is impossible to decide if you are to play the right notes  and blow the piano up, or skip the note with the dynamite and play the others.  I've tried both and neither allowed me to clear the level.

Sharidan,  I'm into Phantom Hourglass as well...I am back at the temple of the Ocean King for the second time.  I agree, a great game.
