Emulaxian/3Darcade gamelist help
« on: May 02, 2003, 09:12:53 pm »
Ok, i'm sure this has been asked a jillion times, but i did a few searches and turned up nothing.  Would someone with emulaxian/3Darcade experience help me with making custom gamelists/filters/selectionsets, whichever it is.  I've been using lazarus, but while i await the new DX version, i thought i'd play around with emulaxian.  I'm really digging it, but i cant figure out how to make custom categories.  Some are already built in such as fighters, sports, etc.  But i'd like to make some custom categories such Driving only, Classics, Capcom, etc.  I briefly read about doing it by manually entering the info, but what i was looking for was an automatic deal similar to Lazarus.  Meaning, i define the parameters and the FE finds the games that match the criteria.  It looks like Emulaxian supports this, but i'm in a little over my head trying to figure it out.  I've tried to reverse engineer the process so to speak by looking at the existing list and cfg files, but i'm lost trying to figure them out.  I read the documentation but i'm still a little lost.  If any can point me in the right direction, maybe post some example files, anything to help, i'd greatly appreciate it.  It would really help if someone could post an example.  Pick a catagory and the parameters and explain how i'm supposed to enter this in emulaxian.  I appreciate any info offered.  Thanx guys, sorry if this is repetative.

Wish I could help.  I never knew how to do that either.  I seriously considered using Emulaxian for awhile, but I didn't want to type out a huge list of games.  If there is anyway to "automate" the process, please inform us.

I'm sure Peter will chime in here sooner or later and will give you the best way to do this, but here's something that's relatively easy and might do what you want.  Rad up on the filter options in the readme.  Here's a small excerpt:

http://3darcade.mameworld.net/index2.htm

Filters can be added by the user based on any entry in the gamelist and are are setup in the cfg file for a selectionset. Setup filters for any gamelist entry with the following format:

Filter|numberoffilters filterdelimiter|
Filter1|entrynumber operator$filter_description search phrase|
.
Filternumberoffilters|entrynumber operator<filterdelimiter>filter_description search phrase|

There are number of ways to do it. CueBall is right, the autofilter option works similar to lazarus but on specific gamelists.  And because the default selectionset contains allready a filterset with all stuff from mame's listinfo and catver it is a very powerful way to create lists when used on the lsit with all games, all.atf.

Even easier is this, just fire up the fe and use the on the fly filtering to create the list you want...go to intenral  the cfg utility...select save list in current form...done!  ;D

And for non mame games, visual pinbaal,mp3's, videos etc you can also create lists automatically from folder contents in gamelist section of the listsmananger of the internal cfg utlity.

Example from mame:

filter|7 $| --the number of filters below and the item delimiter used
filter1|15 contains$Video$Raster_Games Raster$Vector_Games Vector|

So, you could filter on the 7th column for driving games like so:

autofilterdriving|7/contains/driving|

and that would limit your gamelist to only driving games.  You could either make a bunch of filters to scroll through or you could use the autofilter option on each gamelist and make a separate gamelist for each.  Give it a shot and see if it does what you want.

yeah lets expand on this one

autofilterdriving|7/contains/driving|

|Pole Position|polepos|1982|Namco|None|None|Driving / Race Chase|.36b14|Yes|mame|arcade|||Raster|Horizontal|256x224|4x3|60.606060|Unknown|Yes|Dial|1|3|2|polepos.c|Good|Good|Good|||||||||

so in field 7 we find Driving / Race Chase so the match is made and the game will show up in the list. All no matches will be filtered out.

so lets expand on this even more, we only want to see the horizontal driving games in this list.

autofilterdriving|7/contains/driving/15/equals/Horizontal| now only matches in both field 7 and 15 are shown...

Hey I wanted to say great job on Emulaxian.  I moved the marquee up to the top in list mode and made it full size and it really looks great.  Only thing better would be an LCD marquee to show the marquee images.  :-)  Anyone have that setup?  Not the LED marquee, although that's pretty cool too.  I haven't found any LCD screens that are sized for a marquee.  Pretty small market to make those for.
