Those $75 21" pixeltouch monitors

I got one of those $75 21" pixeltouch monitors that was described in another thread. (The kiosk ones in the heavy metal case).

It is working great. But I have a question?

Has anyone taken one of these out of the case?

If so, then does it get any shorter? Right now I can't close the top to my cabinet because the monitor is too tall (yes, the top to my cabinet opens, it is a Cherry Master, which means the entire thing is all doors).

Removing the case didn't make it much smaller on mine. Lighter yes.

I did.. also some other guy had it shipped sans case to save on shippin costs.

It doesn't make it shorter (i.e. from front to back maximum length stays the same as removing the box doesn't shorten the chasis length)... but it does kinda make it less "tall" in the back... which for me made a lot of difference (although I still had to make a "vent" hole in the back door to let the top/back corner hang out an inch of the cabinet...

if you peruse the gallery on http://ubercade.randomdrivel.com you might find a pic that help show how it looks de-cased.   I didn't take a side profile shot which woulda shown the where the "extra" space is shown...

this pic shows some of the guts  (it's also the pic that illustrates that my measurements were a hair off and I needed to plane down my home made monitor rails =( *shrug*

stupid question! when u say 21" pixeltouch [i]moniter[/i], does that mea cpu moniter, or arcade moniter? because arcades are measured in a diffrent way than cpu, right. and are they still availible?

It appears there are 21 left and it is a Computer monitor not an arcade monitor.

Yes, I am in NJ so that is what he quoted me.  THe package weighs 100 lbs so cost is up.  

Anyone who has one already, how is the quality?

I have three of them. They are great. They are PC monitors though. Just in arcade cases. They also have RGB ground + sync connectors in back, but I don't have the proper cabling to test that (the 5 circular connections). These monitors are capable of insane resolutions and refresh rates. They put my NEC Multisync 90 to shame.

You also don't have to worry about accidently overdriving them. They reject any signal out of their range. They just display a message saying that the signal is out of range, what the signal is, and what the acceptable range is.

One of mine was a bit jumpy the first week I had it, but it stopped doing it eventually. I mark it up to humidity in their warehouse. Last time I went to get some of them the cases had a bit of condensation on them.

Just hooked up the monitor to my cabinet.  Big, heavy sucker but built a shelf, put an L bracket on the back to keep it from sliding and perfecto..  Great picture.  

Only question is was wondering is there somewhere on the monitor to adjust the horizontal and vertical positioning.  Can;t seem to find it and my screen is just a little to the left and not filling up the entire screen.

Anyone who knows please help.

I take it you left the case on. The controls are "inside" the case on the left side of the monitor as you are looking at the front. There are holes in the case you can put a skinny object through, I used a jewlers screwdriver. I removed the control boards (there are two) from where they were at, spliced in some extra wire and monunted the controls under my control panel.

I will try those.  ONe of those is the horizontal and vertical allignment?

It's an OSD )On screen Dispay) so all of the controls are done using just 4 buttons (5 counting power).

I just ordered 2 of the PixelTouch monitors from the guy.  Nice guy.  He told me that he had a bit of a problem with FedEx breaking some of them while being shipped, so he recommended having them palletted.  It turns out it's cheaper than FedEx if you order more than one monitor and are willing to go pick them up from a terminal (8 miles away for me).

To New York State:

1 monitor - $90 shipping
2 monitors - $105
3 monitors  - $120

Not bad if you can find someone else who wants one.
