There could also be voice masking and they could just sound weird over the headset.  You guys are right though too many kids play the game because parents think it is a good babysitter and then they wonder why their kids are all f'd up.

I have a question what kind of connection do you have?  I dont have a 360 yet or live but im curious if i would need a really fast connection for decent gameplay.  I was thinking of using verizon's starter plan for 15 a month (768/128 i think) and im not sure if that would be enough.  If i can find the bungie.net thread on buying skill ill post a link it was very enjoyable.

SirPoonga what did you think of Combat Evolved and 2?  In my opinion the series goes CE > H2 > H3.  Also it really seems like they have dumbed the game done to make more money (sell to a broader audience) at the expense of the campaign.

Haven't played halo before this.

As long as you don;t host you should be good.  you need a big upload to host.  Halo should automatically select the best host.
