help installing dragon king
« on: September 22, 2007, 07:34:47 pm »
Hello everyone,
I have been having a hard time setting up dragon king.  I have used mame32 but never a frontend with the regular mame.
I started by downloading mame0119b.exe and dragonking .99. I installed mame into C:\mame and changed nothing other than adding a few roms to the C:\mame\roms file. (zipped) I then installed dragonking to the C:\dragonking folder.

I went throught the dragon king master install settings.
1st the mame.cfg changed the path to path=c:\mame\   (no other changes)
2nd catvers i downloaded and extracted the files to c:\dragonking\list generator\CatVers\catvers.ini
3rd changed the dir.ini  roms=c:\mame\roms\  and Primary Artwork Dir=c:\mame\artwork (there is no artwork)(not sure where to get the artwork and how to set that up)
4th i run the generate list and receive the error RUN TIME ERROR "62" INPUT PAST END OF FILE

So i changed the mame.cfg path=c:\mame\mame   :applaud:
but the master list is empty. What am i doing wrong please help  :hissy:

You might try running an earlier version of MAME. Also, make sure you can run MAME from a command line, ie.
Code: [Select]
cd \mame
mame gridlee

Just run the dumba installation program and you should be able to get it to work. Keep in mind, however, you'll need to make sure your path names entered into the .ini file match what DK expects, which IIRC end in a backslash, ie. your rom path should be c:\mame\roms\ I could be wrong on the path thing, I'll check my own installation.

Post back if you can't get it to work.
Old, but not obsolete.

I ran the dumba to no avail. Could it be that i have no artwork?

Well it's more like that isn't an artwork directory.  You are confusing mame artwork (bezels, ect...) wth fe artwork (snaps flyers, ect)

you need to point that to "c:\mame\"

and mame needs to have the folders:

snap
titles
flyers
cabinets
marquees

And although I can't confirm this (the version on there is oooooooold) it wouldn't hurt to have at least one png file in each folder.

Your dirs.ini should look something like:

Code: [Select]
[Dirs]
***Enter all your rom paths... Just like you do in a mame.ini

roms=C:\mame\roms\

***Put These in as a base folder.  I.E. If your snaps are in "e:\mame\snap\"
***then the entry should be: "e:\mame\"

Primary Artwork Dir=C:\mame\
Additional AW Dirs="\artwork\" "\cabinets\" "\cpanels\" "\movies\" "\snap\"

But I don't think you need the artwork dir set up in order to generate a list.
Old, but not obsolete.
