Okay, I feel stupid. I planned to build a bartop, and even started it, but halted halfway due to private problems. Now, a few months later, gonna try it again.
However, I had a change of mind. No longer a bartop, but a full sized one is what it is going to be.
After seeing the wonderful idea of Randy, I just could not resist to add a flatpanel, albeit with a twist...
Scroll a bit down for the design I'm toying with.
Of course, I still got the same components:
- Elo CRT touchscreen (why? because I have a few of them)
- Betson trackball (not sure I'm going to use this)
- Ultimarc sticks / buttons / interface
Missing is a TFT screen (but I've seen a few rather cheap, so that's not an issue, I may even consider a cheap LCD television).
No fancy swappable panels, simple two person control panel (cramped, I know, I may skip on the trackball if I need to).
I may add a few speakers in semi-hidden locations (for which this design is pretty suitable I guess).
Both screens are going to be horizontal. Top one should be set back a little, and pretty much hidden behind the darkened plexi.
I was thinking about green / black as a colour scheme. I plan to build in such a way that it can be taken apart into smaller transportable modules:
- the bottom drawer (on wheels, actually, so it should be possible to fully draw it outside of the cabinet, making access very easy)
- a bottom enclosure (an inverted U shape) including the control / admin panel and a frame where the CRT can slide into (which I want to be able to remove, I may actually build it something like the third drawing)
- a top enclosure, holding the TFT, and perhaps part of the admin panel
And yes. There is no way back. I just bought the wood... BUT I haven't started CUTTING yet so you can still stop me...
(Mmm. Wonder why sometimes images open in a separate window, and sometimes as part of the forum message. Weird...)
