PC to arcade monitor...without mame?
« on: May 01, 2003, 04:37:47 pm »
OK, im ready to wire my PC to the arcade monitor. I have found the wiring layouts and how to do it and all that good stuff. But i keep seeing MAME involved. My goal is to make this work with Gamelauncher, and nesticle only. No mame. Before i buy my cables i just wnat to know if it's possible to do it without mame. thanks

It's possible, the easiest way to do it is get the ArcadeVGA from Ultimarc.com. What does Gamelauncher run under? If it's DOS based, you could run the monarc or arcmon drivers with a normal card. If it runs under Windows, your best bet is the ArcadeVGA.

Im actually using a laptop with just a 15 pin monitor connection, and i dont really want to spend 90 bucks on the card. If i was going to spend that kind of cash i'd just buy a better computer, and run MAME. Im running win 98. The laptop also has a video out (RCA) is there a way to wire that? thanks

Laptop video chipsets usually aren't good for this kind of thing, but you might be able to get it to work under DOS.

You could buy an NTSC to RGB converter on Ebay. ($40-100 ending price usually, if there's even any listed)

OK,

A little change in my stats here. Now i am not using a laptop. I will now be using a 1.2 ghz processor, with a "TNT II Pro" video card. The card has 15 pin, s-vid, and rca out on it. My monitor has 6 wires coming out. I believe Red, green, blue, h-sync, v-sync, and the last one escapes me. Can i pull off a monitor to arcade connection without the arcade VGA card? I hope so.

You can run DOS with minimal fuss using the monarc or arcmon drivers with a normal video card, just don't turn on your arcade monitor until the drivers are loaded, otherwise you might damage your monitor.

Windows and Windows Mame is quite a bit harder. It's best to just get the ArcadeVGA for that.

If you use Windows you can try  program called Powerstrip from Entech (at least I think that's the company's name).

It's a Windows program that lets you configure a video card far beyond what Windows has built in. Of course, if the video card is crappy then this program can only do so much... And laptop video is usually pretty crappy.

Maybe you can find a PCMCIA video card?
