Galaga To Namco Reunion Class of 1981
« on: September 22, 2007, 05:36:51 am »
Ok so I am going to turn my current galaga into a class of 1981 machine.  I need to know what is best for the primer, I am going to fill in some of the rough spots with filler, and then I'm going to sand it down to the wood if I have to so that I can make it as slick as glass.  I want it to look as if if just rolled out of the factory.  The black is going to be satin black I know that, so my first question is what type of primer do I need to use?  I've looked at this  page form lowes and there are many types of primer

http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productList&N=0&Ntk=i_products&Ntt=zinsser%20BIN%20primer

Which one would be best, I plan to prime sand prime sand finer, and repeat about 4 or 5 times to get the perfect slickness.  Then go over it with the black.  So which would be the best to use for it?

I use kilz primer myself.

One side of the machine you wouldn't have to worry about if you use this.

Of course you wouldn't need the other 2 pieces.

You could probably dump them off on ebay!

I've got the art ordered from Brady in Charlotte.  So I know that one side will be un painted.  But I still have to do the other side and the front and the inside.

I know a Galaga sticker goes on the other side of these machines.

What are your plans for the front?

As they look like this.

I have considered doing this to an old galaga cabinet i have.

Just curious?

I have considered Filling in the space and then adding the over under coin door, or just putting the galaga kick plate on there, or maybe making my own and having it printed up.

Are you stuffing a 25" (or is it 24" or 27"?) monitor in there?

Are the sides of the reunion the same size depth-wise as the ms pac/galaga?  The reunion looks really deep/extra deep to me (but I've never seen them side to side).  Perhaps this is to fit the 25"?  :dunno  (Kinda like the rally-x is not as deep as the pac/ms pac/galaga since the monitor doesn't need the deepness?)

If you're still looking for primer, I use Kilz also.  Good stuff.

Why not increase the monitor size while you have it "up on the racks"?  Too much head ache dealing with the bezel?
