Renaming in Mamewah
« on: May 01, 2003, 04:00:13 pm »
I decided Mamewah will be on my new cabinet .. at least until I come across something better.

However, in Mamewah all my ROMs are listed by their ROM name. Is there a way to get it to display the game name instead?

Is there a better FE than Mamewah for a dedicated cabinet?

Check out EmuTron at www.pacmanfan.com, it's very flexible, and looks great on an arcade cabinet.

Lazarus is nice too, www.oscarcontrols.com\lazarus

MAME ROMs should show up with the correct game description (not romname).  Did you 'Add Emulator' and then setup MAME?  If so, then start again and setup MAME as the default emulator (no need to Add Emulator).

If you're talking about console ROMs then the rom-filename will be displayed, so you need to name these files as you wish for them to be displayed.

Let me know if this doesn't help!

Minwah! Wow .. I didn't think the creator would answer my question!

Yes, I did 'add emulator' when I set up Mamewah. When I set up the default MAME emulator, it doesn't find my ROMS when I do the 'refresh game list'.

As far as I can see, the only thing I really need to enter is the path to mame.exe, which on my PC is "c:\mame\mame\mame.exe" (ya, the directory is redundant). When I add an emulator, there's an option for ROM path which defaults to c:\mame\mame\roms after I set up the executable, but using the default MAME settings, there's to place to enter the ROM path. Can I just manually enter a ROM path in the config file?

Just out of curiosity, I moved my MAME folder so it was just C:\MAME and tried to set up Mamewah, and it still cannot find the ROMs.

Does Mamewah need to be inside my MAME directory?

the default 'MAME' config doesn't allow you to change the rom folder, so you need to whack all yer roms into \MAME\ROMS (or, C:\MAME\MAME\ROMS in your case :P )

that's why your only seeing the filenames, you've added the extra emulator catagory in oder to put your own rom path in, MAMEwah then thinks you've added a console emulator and doesn't list the actual gamenames as they're not supported...

hope you get it sorted

My PC at work is the one I was describing earlier. My PC at home is just fine.

I have mame.exe in E:\mame\mame, and Mamewah in e:\mame\wah

Thanks for the info!

This is true, but MAMEWAH attempts to 'get' your ROM folder by reading either MAME.CFG (DOS MAME) or MAME.INI (WinMAME).

Try creating an INI file using 'MAME -cc'.  Then check the rompath specified inside the MAME.INI file.

Radiator is right, 'adding' emulators is really for console (or non-MAME) emulators.

No, MAMEWAH doesn't need to be inside your MAME directory (it should default to 'C:\Program Files\MAMEWAH' I think).

Let me know how you get on Vertekal, I'll be happy to try and help :)
