I just bought an older house, with a Squirrel problem in the garage. I could use the device in this video.

See the Squirrel holes?

Short term, I'd say most effective way to keep them out of that area is dog urine.

I'll have to do that. I had tried pissing all over my garage myself and all that did was succeed in making the neighbors think I'm crazy.

You did that before the squirrels showed up, though.  They seem to like you.  Are you sure that wasn't done by gerbils?

BIG gerbils.

You know, I spoke with our city's resident Squirrel expert (He's charged with controlling them in the parks and in residences) and he told me that if these Squirrels were raised by their parents, IN my garage, then they will always seek out a garage to bare and raise their young. You can't "unlearn" them, and you can't relocate them (legally).

You have to kill them. Which sucks, because I think Squirrels are cute. But I'm not going to renovate my garage just to have a bunch of prettied-up rats destroy it again. And I'm going to have to do it myself, since the city charges $150 to come out and remove them. Each time they have to come out. 'Eff that, Squirrels. I'm going Rambo on your asses.

A dog will do that for you.  Is the garage heated?

No heat, but it's surrounded by trees, so a dog wouldn't get them to permanently move out...they'd just get back in and nest inside in the Winter. We use the garage every day, two cars..and a loud garage door opener. They couldn't give a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Squirrels....time to die.

See where I'm going?  Dead squirrels don't come back.  A dog isn't poison and it's not illegal.  Some small dogs live to hunt, and they don't mind spending long periods in the garage if there is something to do in there...

I'm not buying a dog, just to kill Squirrels. We don't even have a fenced in yard.
I want LESS animals...not more.  :P

I had an issue with squirrels getting into the eaves and attic of my house.  they had chewed holes through the cedar facia boards.

I tried a number of various repellants to discourage them, but nothing really worked.  They were actually tearing up the fiberglass insulation to make nests, so i don't know what it would take to really irritate a squirrel.

I finally bought a live trap.  I used a peanut butter and bird seed mixture as bait.  Each morning I would load the trap and each evening I would release a trapped squirrel into the woods west of my house.  The advice I found on the web suggested that the squirrels have to be released at least 10 miles away so that they don't find their way back.  After a couple

You are never going to build a catapult that will fling them ten miles away!  ;D

After a few weeks of trapping the squirrels, we had the soffit and facia redone in aluminum.  they have not come back in since.

Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!

That is why you aim the catapult STRAIGHT UP...just come out to clean up every once in a while...most would likely limp away before finally succumbing to the damage inflicted by a 40' drop...

Hey!

I did find a dead squirrel in my pool last year.

I'll have to check my neighbors' decks for catapults.  ;D

The extra thermal energy from the burning corpse would boost his red neck pool heater's output!  A plus for you and your neighbor!

Dude should build a giant target in his yard.  Douse the squirrels in chalk just before flinging them and you can have a nice little squirrel chucking competition.
