I came across an awesome monitor find on Craigslist, and it should be perfect in my cabinet. It is a Monivision 29" CRT monitor, capable of resolutions to 800x600. It has about a 27" viewable tube, which will be a near perfect fit for my cabinet. But I will need to mount it vertically, and hence will need to decase it.
I have followed the instructions found here (
http://www.instantarcade.com/discharge.php), but here is my question... How can I be sure I have properly discharged it? I thoroughly touched the screwdriver to the metal connection under the "suction" and the screwdriver was connected to some metal on the chassis. I don't want to start reaching in and picking things up until I can be sure I won't shock the begeesus out of myself.
And for extra credit: if I have discharged it and leave it unplugged and don't touch it for a week or two, am I still safe to go mucking around, or will I need to discharge it again?
Thanks in advance.
Oh yeah, and pics of my (barely beginning) cabinet conversion to follow someday soon in the Announcements forum.
And oh yeah again, the monitor was only $40.
