Picture looks like a puzzle piece??
« on: September 08, 2007, 11:35:39 pm »
I'm testing out a 25" monitor and the video takes a minute or so to get past wavy lines to finaly sync up.  But when it does, the final picture looks good, except it looks like a puzzle piece.  The left side comes in some, but not in a straight line, more like a crooked line.

The sync pots don't have any effect on this.  You can see where the screen is "active", the black video (title screen background) looks dark grey, and the "missing" video is dark black.  Could there be something wrong with the neck or tube?

I realize I should have pictures of this before I post, but I just haven't had a chance to take any yet.

Thanks for any help.

And we have no idea what kind of monitor you are talking about.
Nor do we know what kind of setup you are using.
Is this a true arcade game, a pc based system, ArcadeVGA card, etc.

But more than happy to help if we can.

Oops, is this forum supposed to be about arcade related monitors?  I was talking about my 25" headrest mounted setup!

(j/k)

Here's the best description of the setup.

25" Zenith Tube w/ WG K7000 (pretty sure)

I'm using a test rig that I've been piecing together as follows:

AC Setup:
wall power -> iso xfrm -> monitor power input

Video Setup:
Jamma board -> Jamma harness -> Bob Roberts monitor extension -> 6 pin input (R,G,B,Gr,Sync,Sync)

DC Setup:
Wall Power -> Switcher (with Ground jumpered to 0V DC) -> Jamma harness

Side note:  using a RGB -> Svideo converter board, I have verified good video from the jamma setup above.

Thanks again for any help.

Damn....... someone has an awfully big head.   ;)

Can I ask why you are using something like this to test an arcade monitor?
If you are testing a true arcade monitor...... you don't need this.
Just apply the RGB and Sync directly to the monitor input from the jamma harness.

I'm  monitor noob, but not that noob-ish!   :)

Testing the monitor was with the RGB cable directly to the monitor.  I only used the converter to make sure it wasn't anything to do with the PCB.  Using the converter tests everything right up to the monitor's input.

I see..... makes more sense now.

Honestly, I'd start with a cap kit from what I get with the description of the problem and knowing that it's a K7000 series monitor.
