Anyone using an NEC Multisync XM29?
« on: April 30, 2003, 09:25:13 am »
Hi all.  I just scored a good deal on an NEC Multisync XM29 monitor for my recently completed MAME cab based on the plans from mameroom.  I was using a 21" computer monitor but I wanted a little bigger display and was headed toward the WG9200 until this came along.
I got it for $50 locally.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else was running this monitor as it seems to have all the advantages of the 9200 and also has runs 1024x768 quite nicely for PC games.  It does 15-50Khz, and has a standard VGA connector.
Here are the specs:
29" Invar shadow mask
27 viewable image
.75 mm dot pitch
Video Bandwidth  40 Mhz
Maximum Resolution Up to 1024x768

Video Signal : Analog
H Frequency : 15-50 Khz
V Frequency : 40-100 Hz
Sync Signal : Composite

Buy it right now... :)
I paid $150 for mine :(.
The deal isnt bad to me but...$50 is better !

$150 is still a hell of a deal.  These things were like $3K seven years ago.
So far everything looks great.  No out of range errors like I got when I was testing a WG9200 under MAME32 for a friends cab that I built at the same time.  To properly use the WG9200 it looks like you really need to run Advanced MAME and that looked like a lot more work.

Yep i have one of these monitors to.
untill u own 1 of these you really can belive how good they are.
mine was about $150 aswell i think thats a bargain so $50 a bloody good deal these are the best monitors you can get for the money ur right they were 3k when they came out so they are far beter then a wg9200

PC games look great even at 800x600, dvds @ 720x480 look amazing i also run the desktop at this res as it is clearer then 800x600 i find.
i dont even use my 17" svga anymore i just use the 29" nec as my main monitor.

to run mame so that it looks arcade perfect u  still need to make sure ur pc is out puting 15khz and auto switches the monitor to 15khz that way u get true scanlines!
if you just run mame normaly it will be runing at a 31khz res and will look ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.
its no good running mame at  like 640x480 u need to use a vertical  res  below 288

got a simple question, can you run desktop at say...800x600 and run mame games at their native resolution?  ???
Since the monitor is multi sync.Of course my video card has to be able to do 15khz right?
any help on this?  :)
my monitor is coming monday so I could try with my video card.
I got ati rage fury pro but do have access to other video cards as well.
