More importantly, online Battle mode.

Yeah, the snaking got old (though I could hold my own against a lot of them).

Last I heard though they were toying with the idea of making it so powerslide boost will temporarily make the player invincible to attack, making snakers that much harder. That was a long time ago though that I heard that. I'm sure they wont do anything that would ruin gameplay that badly.

Hm...I didn't know SSMTs were given a one word moniker...

I snake.

I'm curious as to how you'd disable snaking, but not MTs.  Unless you give the option to completely disable MTs.  Which wouldn't bother me.

I would like battle mode to have larger size arenas, like the older days.  A few more arenas, and use larger engines.  50cc (hell, it seems slower than that) makes it next to impossible to just dodge a red shell.  You can still block easily, but dodging is another matter.  Overall, I just hate the sluggish feel of battle mode.  It's still fun, but I think faster would be more fun.

And go back to five races per cup like the SNES.

I'm thinking if they're gonna have 16 players simultaneously, the arenas will have to be fairly large.

What is snaking?  I've never played Mario Kart online.

If there is a killer Mario Kart for the Wii I'm all over it.  That is a killer app for me.

I had to look it up to be sure, but I had an idea. You can exploit the power slide mini boost on straightaways by power sliding across the road just enough to gain the boost. Then you switch directions and do it again.

I learned to do this on Mario Kart 64. You pretty much had to master the power slide boost in order to beat the time trials. I'm in the camp of people who think it is a strategy rather than a cheat.

Is that one of the power ups you have to gain from an item or is it just the drifting technique?

It's what separate the hard core from us casual players and makes the online experience for us casual players far less satisfying.

On the DS its pretty difficult to do if you have big hands, I can do it but my hands cramp up after awhile....and having to do it every race over and over and over takes alot of fun out of just playing.

So it's sort of like the cheapass goal from center ice you could score in NHL 93 any time you wanted with any player.  It's sort of a valid technique but wrecks the game for people trying to play normally.  Or that screen pass to a tight end that the AI defense can never manage to handle and always goes for a first down even if the opponent sees it coming.

yep, if you don't snake then you have a significantly lower chance of beating the snaker unless you just keep getting blue shells or something.

Well to be fair, it takes skill to snake.

I would allude more to the infinites in Marvel Vs Capcom 2.  Snaking against casual players is like making Juggernaut invincible in a game of MvC2.
Is it a viable strategy?  yes.
Do some people and tournament view it as cheating/exploiting? yes.
Does it take skill to pull off?  Oh yeah.
Should you do it every time you play and call the other players expletives because they do not do it?  It is times like those where I wish we were still in the arcades and not so endowed with the internet.

Snaking is easily combatted by good driving and racing strategy.  In Mario Kart DS, I never lost to snakers.  Only to better drivers.  Snaking can be a little frustrating at first, but once you've practiced and developed your technique, you should be able to beat anyone who relies on snaking.  Don't let that discourage you from playing.

Not if the snaker is really good.

And the snaking thing is not good strategy or a good player. It was not meant to be used that way. The power slide boost was meant only for taking a corner in the least amount of turn possible and faster. Not for snaking. This is why only certain characters can do the snaking.
