Hello All,
I am new to this forum so please go easy on me :-)

My build uses the UAII Mameroom Cabinet and the Wells Gardner 27" D9400 Flat CRT arcade monitor. At first I was a little confused as to how to mount the monitor inside the cabinet, but I think I am just going to build a custom frame using a few 2x4's and L-brackets.

So now my issue is the monitor bezel. The cabinet assembly instructions call for the standard 27" bezel from happcontrols (49-0106-00). However I have the flat (not curved) CRT monitor, so I decided to get the flat monitor bezel instead (49-1857-00). Problem is that the outside dimensions of the flat CRT bezel doesn't fit the UAII bezel mounting frame - its too small, both length and width-wise.

Can anyone point me in the direction of purchasing a correctly sized 27" monitor bezel for flat CRT's on the UAII cabinet?

Thanks

Joystick Jerk

You're probably not going to find any other bezels, as Happ is virtually the only company in the biz making bezels. See if you can get some stiff black plastic from Home Depot or elsewhere and cut it to size so that it fits your bezel mounting frame perfectly. Then cut an inner square out of that so it overlaps with the edges of the bezel. Then use some superglue or plastic cement to glue the two together.

Hell, it may even look better that way as it'll sort of have a matting effect like a mounted painting.

As JJ said, I don't know of any other source for good bezels.

I noticed that same sizing issue when I was putting together my UAII cabinet.  I ended up going with the Betson 27" monitor, and the Happ curved screen bezel is plenty big for the UA2 cab.  That obviously that won't help you though.

I'd do like JJ said, and find some black plastic to mount around the enges of the bezel.

Other thing I'll say is that I didn't like the monitor mounted right up at the front of the cabinet and nearly vertical like you'd have to mount it to have the bezel attached to those little mounting strips you screw on.   It felt both too close to the player and too vertical.

What I did was mount the monitor (using angle brackets and 2x4's bolted to the monitor frame rails) a couple inches deeper into the cabinet and tilted back maybe 15-20 degrees.  I found that it makes for much more comfortable viewing.  I haven't done it yet, but sooner or later I'm planning to mount clear plexiglass on those bezel mounting strips the UA2 comes with to keep peoples filthy fingers away from the tube.

If you go that route you'll need some extra of that black plastic.  With the monitor and bezel tilted back a bit the top part of the bezel ends up behind the speaker shelf and the marquee light (I presume you'll be adding one) ends up shining down on the screen.  Simple piece of black plastic took care of that.

Also, without the bezel mounted to those bezel strips you end up with a little light creeping around the edges of the bezel since it's more or less impossible to cut it so the edges fit 100% flush against the cabinet.  I picked up a little roll of black foam weather stripping from Lowes and stuck it on the back side of the bezel sticking a mm or 2 past the edge to take care of that.

I ran into the same issue of the flat monitor bezel not fitting, I just used black foam board to fill in the edges as shown in the following picture.

Would using the happs curved bezel  work with flat monitor?

you can also just get some smoked glass or plexi and it will clean up the whole thing
and should be very cheap actually

that's how i 'fixed' my non-fitting bezel with a flat crt

it was kind of an overall appearance upgrade (IMO) as well as alleviating the need for a bezel
