using ultraISO to create bootable mame on dvd.
« on: August 31, 2007, 07:30:14 am »
Has anyone used this program to create a bootable mame system on dvd/cd?,
its a bit like magic iso but seems to work a bit better for editing ISOs and making
programs boot from cd/dvd.

I was thinking of cutting a slot in my cab and then mounting a dvd drive instead of using a hard drive, just swapping the disks for different applications or versions of mame, not tried it yet but hopefully it would work without needing to write to a harddrive.

i have a basic version of windows98 that runs on cd, so im pretty sure dos mame would work pretty well.loading from a fast cd drive seems nearly as quick as the harddrive.

im not sure wich romset you are using but ver 108 of mame takes up like 15 gigs. just by itself. even if you used a dvd thats 3 or 4 swaps just to show the full set. if you have other imulators then add a few more.

i have not used ulltraiso but i have run mame off a cd before and there is most definatly a lag between switching games as well vs using a hard drive.

booting mame off a cd imho is only good for getting a friend addicted to emulation not so useful for a cab.
