Function of this board?
« on: August 30, 2007, 10:05:21 am »
Hi all,
On my WG k8000 chassis, the rgb input lines go to this board, which in turn is conected to the chassis where the usual style plug I'm used to seeing is...
Can anyone tell me it's purpose?
Amp?
Filter?

It's either a .7 volt video amplifier or an NTSC decoder board. I suspect it's a .7 volt preamp (rare and valuable for use with video output from computer video cards).

I was kind of hoping you would reply Ken, I figured you of all people may know  ;D
This whole cabinet is confusing the hell out of me..
KLOV says ridge racer is a standard res (namoc system 22) http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9312
, the monitor is a med res k8000, and then I have this mystery board in there doing who knows what :-)
I suppose if it's a preamp, it would make sense that klov is wrong, the game is med res, and all will be right in the world...
Otherwise, someone stuck the wrong chassis in the cab to sell just so it had one in there :-)
Can I put my freq counter on the sync line to find out for sure what res monitor I need on this game? (just thought of that now, no idea if it would work)

OK, at least I have that for certain then thanks :)
Though it still doesn't solve my mystery... How could this game possibly have worked with the monitor that's in it? (see my other thread for pics http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=70658.0 )
If it IS a k8000, the monitor is a med res... or is the monitor a dual capable one?
Or does that card alter the signal maybe?
I swear if I had any hair left, I'd be pulling it out by now  ;D

I have a Ridge racer at the factory, it belongs to a friend.

I will try to remember to measure the resoultion in the morning.

Ken is almost certainly right, it is a board to match impedance or voltage levels. Not sure that it converts .7 and 3 or 5 volts though.

The transistors, resitors etc are almost certainly a bootstrap arrangement.

Good Luck

Well I got the game to sync up on my 25" standard res spare finally, so I guess now I need to make sure I have a good ID on the chassis in the cabinet (See pics in other thread linked above), and see if it even belongs in there.
