Tilting monitor gives bad picture
« on: August 29, 2007, 03:25:24 pm »
Hello all,

I've been browsing the site a while and have gotten some good info to get my cabinet started.  I've ordered all my controllers (buttons, trackball, joysticks) and having a good time so far.  Hit my first issue though.  The tv I bought to put in my cabinet looks fine, but when I tilt it back more than say 10 degrees, the top of the picture starts to lose color.  I wanted to go with a more angled look than the vertical look.  Has anyone seen this before?  I'm planning on taking it back and exchanging it just to see if its this particular unit.

Thanks again for all the info I've gained so far.  Look forward to posting some pics once I get a little further!

You need to degauss the monitor...that will fix the color issues.  The magnetic pole's of the earth screw with the colors of a monitor when you move it around,  tilt it, etc.  My DDK cabinet goes rainbow when I have it facing East or North but is fine when i have it facing South or West....requiring a degauss when I move it either North or East...

Most TV's will degauss if you turn them off and then turn them on again. They usually auto-degauss when they power up.

Thanks for the input.  I'll try tilting it to the angle I hope to use and cycle the power and see what happens.

Be sure to let it sit a bit before turning it back on.
A quick OFF-ON cycle may not activate the degauss coil.

...and sometimes the built-in degauss sucks and doesn't work.

Fortunately for me, it worked  :applaud:  Now that I know the tv I'm using, I can actually start building the cabinet.  Thanks guys!
