any front end that will run future pinball
« on: August 25, 2007, 08:24:53 pm »
Is there any front ends that will run future pinball. I tried mala and it didnt work. Many of front ends say support all but when you try it doesnt work. Maybe future pinball is special?

right now im just looking for one that actually works. although one that shows the table would be a bonus.

I have created a wrapper for long time ago. So if the frontend can use commandline emulators, you should use Future Pinball as well. I remember that app did have some Windows focus problems and is not very created for arcade cabs (as you can clear see it when you start it up).

If it does not work directly from commandline, I should look it again, because they may have changed the way FP is starting up (hopefully the better way).

I run it in Mala just fine.

Rom Path = C:\arcade\Emulators\Future Pinball\Tables
Rom extension = fpt
Command line =   /open "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" /play /exit

What space fractal said...... If I get a free moment I'll dl the newest build and give it a try.  Just because mala isn't having focus issues doesn't mean other fes aren't.

I run it in Mala just fine.

Rom Path = C:\arcade\Emulators\Future Pinball\Tables
Rom extension = fpt
Command line =   /open "%path%\%rom%.%ext%" /play /exit

OK sooo... I tried this and it DOES work BUT focus is not on Future Pinball... I need ot reach for my mouse, click, and THEN I can use my arcade buttons (I-PAC 2 keyboard encoder)

I will try this wrapper (from the wiki)

Hi,

I have a plugnplay module that runs future pinball.  I guess you can have a look how it works and adapt the configuration to mala.

After some research i found out this focus problem is future pinball not mala. it also effects visual pinball wich will suffer the same effect. the fix for visual pinball is to right click the visual pinball exe and change the compatibility mode to windows 2000. this does work and i have no idea why. where i read the fix never explained why. i have not tested this fix on future pinball though as the focus problem seemed to go away for me as of late.

Arg... I hope to find a solution for this

I found the wrapper (linked above, from the Wiki) but the instructions are crazy... You have to rename the table files (!?) and some other things... Mhhh. Plus it looks like it's for Mamewah frontend, not sure if it would even help with MaLa + Future Pinball...

If anyone has ideas here, please post.

To recap:

Mala launches Future Pinball > FP loads > FP has no focus > forced to use the mouse to click on FP to give focus > works fine and even exits to Mala menu (NOT cab friendly!)

Yep, it was made using MAMEWAH as FE, when I wrote that little wrapper.

MaLa might send the extra extension, which it shoud NOT to do that. Hince it might have tried to run  Sci-Fi Classic.fpt.fpt instead of  Sci-Fi Classic.fpt. This because the wrapper It add the extension itself. I should look on that, so it remove the double extension itself.

Im looking into that now.

thanks

I must say that having to rename all the tables is a bit scary of an install process for the wrapper... :( ... if there is any way to make the wrapper more transparent that would be awesome ... :)

thanks for looking into it and for making the wrapper!
