Standalone lwa player
« on: August 25, 2007, 04:30:08 pm »
I was wondering if any1 made a standalone .lwa player? I have one but it is only capable of playing one lwa file at a time. I would like one that would play all .lwa files in a directory. If any1 has done one could you plz point me to a link thanx    :applaud:

well, if you have a LED-Wiz and rgb buttons .lwa files are lighting animation sequences. When you have everything hooked up and installed correctly they look really nice when running. You can go to my myspace page and see a video of a lwa sequence going on my Mame cab. http://www.myspace.com/djinfinity01 click on the videos link.

well,
In my experience it is not prudent to send requests to software makers. It could get you flamed  so I just thought I would ask to see if someone made a standalone app that I might have missed

Many like requests how to make thier software better. It only the way many software can been approved. It simple because the player you have did not think about that feature, when he made it....

This request would been a very good one trouch (an no I do not have LedWiz, but I do know it). I have my selv added some requests into my software (the now discounted Arcade Music Box and MultiJuke), if they are good and is possible.

So you should contact him, since this request would not been hard to add into the player.

yep that is the standalone player I have. What I would do is use it when I am running videos and other emulators I don't have in Mala. I think having to run .lwa sequence at a time is boring, it looks better when they change up. I fyou could add this feature I would appreciate it. Thank you

OK just so we are on the same page...How do you plan to launch the stand-alone player when you are running videos and other emulators ?

It should of course been command line to start and stop the animation, so it can been stopped when the command have been sent. It could even been maybe using the clipfolder to doing that task (since Randy did cheking that way I remember when he released the original software)... Hince creating a bunch of bath files to control the player.

Since I do not own a LedWiz, I have not been much in that scene, even it a great peace of hardware.

Probably a more immediate option is just to use mamehooker.  It doesn't support lwa files, but it has it's own scripting format that is very similar, so similar that a crafty person could probably figure out a way to convert lwa files to mhs (mame hooker script) files.  You can send multiple commands seperated by a comma, so with one line you tell it to run multiple scripts and when one is finished it'll go to the other until done.

It has dde and command line support (current command line support is a tad flaky but that'll be fixed very very soon).

Remember guys, mamehooker can do just about anything, it isn't just for controlling outputs in mame anymore. :D

About Mame Hooker

But before we go to all that trouble common sense check!  Umm lwa files are just text files, why don't you just merge them all into one file?

I didn't know that as I have never tried to edit one  :dunno but trying to copy & paste all the text from over 75-80 lwa files doesn't sound appealing to me  :hissy: I hope Loadman will mod his lil app for me that would be really cool  if not looks like I will have to stop being lazy roll up my sleeves and get to it. Thanx  8)

I hadn't realized anybody actually used randy's tool to be honest.  Seemed like a good idea to me so I've also added support into mame hooker.  It'll be in the next release, which should be out soon.

The only improvements I thought someone might want is:
* Have it remember the directory set
* have it start playing LWA upon launch

Have fun  ;)

possibly programmable sequences. Meaning you can arrange a set pattern of sequences and have it repeat. But that's probably doing too much

You know what else would be damn useful? A standalone button lighter. That would come in handy for people like me who are too slow witted to get things running in Mala but still want in game lighting for their emulators (Visual Pinball, Daphne, Zinc & others) if it were based on the plugin you & Edge do that would be awesome cause you could use every button on your control panel for ingame lighting. Just a thought.  :notworthy:   :notworthy:

OK that is getting a bit silly  ;)

There are guides and people here to help you that set up Emu's in MaLa.

That would be MUCH less work than that.   Sorry  :P
