That game still haunts me...

The game still haunts my wallet!  After all was said and done, $200 was spent on maracas and the game.  But, oh, the fun we had....   Let us know how it is!  :-)

I never played it.  I had a Dreamcast at the very end of its life, and I always wanted Samba, but it was always too expensive or difficult to get a hold of.  This is pretty good news.

I recently scored the game with maracas off ebay for the dreamcast.  80 bucks if I remember.

Great game....let us know how it is....

Sega's track record has been pretty hit and miss in recent years.  I would think it would be best to wait, especially with a game that even amoung rythm games, isn't exactly the best in it's class (DDr and Guitar Hero).  I like it though and will definately give it a look once it's been out a while and has been properly reviewed.  A pre-order is really un-necessary though.  Do you actually think this game is going to be so popular it'll sell out?  Actually, for that matter, when is the last time you gents tried to get a game and they sold out of it?

Even games like Zelda TP and GOW seemed pretty easy to get ahold of at release time (or at least they were here).

About the maracas comment.... They were essentially sticks with balls on top and the wiimote is a big stick.  I don't really see the diff.  And of course some Japaneese company will come out with a cheap-platsic attachment to go on top once the game is released.  I mean we have boxing gloves, golf clubs, a sword/shield combo... even a cooking mama attachment!

In the past year I've seen the games Guitar Hero 2, Bully, Puzzle Quest, and Super Paper Mario sell out.  I got lucky in two of the cases and was able to buy the last copy available from the second or third gamestop I searched, the other games I had to wait a few weeks for them to become available.  Games do sell out from time to time, but I do agree a preorder of this game is probably unnecessary.

I'm not sure I would consider that a sell-out though.  For me a sell-out is you can't get it anywhere for months (or at least one month).  There have been a few occasions myself, when one particular sote was out, so I just went to the next one.  Not that big of a deal to me.  I've never had a game I couldn't get within the release week though.  Even when the store-fronts are out, generally you can buy it on amazon, get free shipping, and have it there in the week.

What I don't like about pre-ordering is that you are stuck with the game even if it turns out to be crap, and a lot of times they charge extra.  For me at least, it's just not worth the money.  Generally speaking, if it's a game I REALLY want (like the upcoming Metroid Prime 3) then I try to get there that day and if they are sold out (which hasn't happened to me since the n64 days) I check online that evening and buy it.

The only close call I've had in recent memory was super paper mario, and it turns out, even though the walmart I first went to nearly sold out, the sam's club down the street had like 50 of em, and because it's a sam's club, nobody thought to go there.  My advice (as a side note) is to NOT frequent places like gamestop on launch day.  A more generic store isn't going to be teaming with fanboys and generally they get as many, if not more copies in.

Sorry to get off-topic, I'm just sharing my views.  I think pre-ordering, at least the ones that charge you, is a scam and people should avoid it.  Only when people stop pre-ordering will rip-off joints like gamestop quit charging 5 bucks for a service they could easily offer for free.  It's not the fact that it is a lot of money (it certainly isn't) but more the principal of the thing.

The last game that "Sold-Out" for me was Super Mario Bros. 2 back in the 80s'.  Nowadays I have access to car and a cell phone so I can drive around and call ahead while on the road to find a game.   So I agree that pre-ordering is a tad pointless (even though the Gamestop guys try to hype it up like there's going to be a worldwide shortage).  The only time it's worth it is when there's bonuses involved.  I pre-ordered Wind Waker so I get get the Ocarina of Time bonus disc.

I assumed when you said "sell out" that you meant the stores sold every copy they had (which was the case for Puzzle Quest, wal mart and sams club didn't carry it), not that stores sold every copy they had for over a month.  The only time I ever remember that happening in all my years of gaming was with the original Guitar Hero.

And I don't like preordering either, the only time I've ever done it is when they offer some cool incentive to preorder such as getting access to play the beta.

Uhm.. First of all they don't charge you a $5 fee for their service.  It is a deposit which comes out of the price of the game not a fee. It is fully refundable if you at any point before picking up the game change your mind.  Personally I like to pre-order my games because I'm lazy and on the off chance they do sell out of the game for whatever reason I don't want to have to drive around to 2-3 different places looking for a copy.  I just want to go one place get it over with and then I'm done.  Now if they actually charged a fee for reserving that would be a totally different story.  I'm not going to pay extra for the service but since it isn't a fee I don't see anything wrong with it.
