GameEx front end issues.
« on: August 15, 2007, 09:37:44 am »
I recently got all my hardware and software configured for a arcade console-style project.
GameEx was the front end I chose to use with command line mame.

GameEx also lets you run other applications (not just emulators), like Stepmania, Mugen..and a few others. But I can't seem to get my PC version of Guilty Gear XX to work with it. It runs off an .exe like anything else.

I can run Guilty Gear fine without the front end, but if I wanna choose it from the GameEx menu...it just doesn't work.

I would try another front-end, but I just got this one all configured and working. lol.

But if I did go to  another front-end, what would you all suggest? I need something that lets you run other applications from the front-end. Like I listed above. And needs to work with Windows XP and Instantsheller.

Last question. In Mame, is there a file where I can configure all of controls for all the games at one time? Or do I need to do it for every game individually? I'm using a hacked USB controller.

Thanky.

My guess is the problem is due to the way Guilty Gear is launched and you may find the same problem with other FE's. The problem is most likely the shortcut to the game firstly launches some program that in turn launches the main game. In this case GameEx will think the game has ended and return you back to the FE. So you need to identify the executable that is the game and try running that instead. Otherwise there are ways (like using batch files or scripts) to make sure it will wait until you exit the game.

Got it working.

Had to setup Guilty Gear as an emulator and not a PC game (although it is a PC game). But now the console setup is 100%. Just gotta get some new front-end screens and we're good to go.
