« on: August 07, 2007, 04:43:48 pm »
I had this monitor working fine, I switched PCBs and was adjusting my sync and couldnt get it quite right so I shut it off and came back to it, now when I turn it on it just makes a quiet, tick tick tick tick noise, I can tell the monitor is not turning on .. what could of happened?

its in shutdown, switch off for an hour/adjust the sinc back to the middle and try again.
otherwise you have a blown horizontal deflection transistor

What if its the transistor, does that have to be professionally repaired?

Yea its broke, I waited over an hour, still just ticks... too much work to get this monitor out of this cab. Guess I will just ditch it for $100 bucks.

Wow, I wish I could afford to just toss whole cabs when the HOT blows.

I understand the concept of removing the anode cap safely, however with this cabinet it is tough to get to, How would you guys go about removing this monitor from the cab for service? Can I unscrew it from the front and pull it out to access the anode cap? or  will I die..

Yeah, take the 6 bolts out along the top and bottom brackets and pull it straight out the front.   If you have somebody to help lift it out that would be a good idea.

I hate to be a stick in the mud, but from the picture that shows a limited view of the chassis it could be a Wells U series monitor.  The U series aren't the best monitors for somebody that hasn't worked on monitors before.  While it's possible that the HOT has failed, I can think of a dozen other things that will put a U series into shutdown.

Yea I got it out easily, I called the local shop and they are gonna fix it, I am not gonna mess with it. They also said it could be quite a few things but shouldnt cost more than $100 to fix at the most, and your right its a U2000
