New arcade monitor troubles [FIXED!]
« on: August 06, 2007, 04:28:53 am »
Hi

I picked up a new 29" monitor a few weeks back with chassis and only just had tho opportunity to try it out now.  It took me a while to get things working with the ArcadeVGA 2 card, and I now have a steady picture, however it's looking far from a decent image.  Here in Australia everything is 240VAC, so I bought an isolation transformer that outputs 120VAC, 1A (120W).

Monitor has this on the sticker:
FEG
A68AGA25X101

The chassis has no numbers or ID of any sort, I'll take a photo:

Problem 1:
All the colours were reversed, like red was green, green was blue, and blue was red.  I double-checked my wiring thinking I had just wired the wrong colours, but that was fine.  So I degaussed it, and it can good, I've never seen an entire screen have opposite colours like that from magnatism...  anyways, the corners are still disscoloured and I've tried degaussing it over and over, but they won't clear up...

Problem 2:
Also the horizontal size was too wide and overscanning badly, even with the adjustment pot set to it's smallest size...  that magically fixed itself over night!? ??? Now it's not overscsanning... wierd, could a degause fix overscanninng?

Problem 3:
I have trouble now where the picture brightness goes bright and the colours wash out a bit, then it goes really dark, over and over.  it takes 5 or 10 seconds to cycle like this.  I only noticed that this arfternoon.

Problem 4
AND I suddenly get a white line zig-zagging from left to right, all the way down the screen.

This is very frustrating as you can imagine, as it was all bought brand new.  I'm hoping one of you gurus can help me out :)

Edit:  Fixed this by turning down the screen trimmer on the flyback ;D

I thought I should add that I'm running this with an ArcadeVGA 2 card and ultimarc video amp.

I removed the chassis to give you a better pic:

I found where the model number should be, but it has been removed by the distributer I assume ???

When I removed the chassis I found this!!

That's obviously a problem, and will have to be sorted.  What would cause this?

Any help appreciated!

A picture tube with the part number starting out with A68 indicates a 27 inch tube.

You have a Wei-ya chassis   www.weiya.com.tw/    Your local distributor probably removed it's identification tag because they wanted to brand it as their own.

One of those two red wires with the black single pin connector sets the width range (N) narrow or (W) wide. It should be silkscreened on the parts side of the board near the jumper wires. Simply unplug (with power OFF) the wire from one pin and move it to the other pin.

It looks like you have a bad capacitor. Obviously since this is a brand new monitor you should have a warranty on it. Take it back and get a new one.

Thanks for your help guys  :)

I'll take both the monitor and chassis back to the shop.  I paid for a 29" monitor and he gave me a 27" ?! :-\  I'll have to sort this out.  Thanks for the heads up, kudos.

Ok, all is fixed ;D

Some one told me to try turning down the screen trimmer on the flyback.  Perfect picture now :)
