Speaker grills

This cab came with 1 metal mesh grill that went under the speaker, how needed are these?

Shouldn't be necessary unless your house is like an arcade (kids destroying everything).  I removed mine and covered the whole speaker panel with speaker cloth.  Looks very nice.

Ah!  I also figured out that they are also used to prevent the magnetism in the speakers to mess with your monitor.
