Will a cap kit fix this?
« on: April 26, 2003, 01:10:10 pm »
Im my jamma cab as u can tell I dont get perfect vertical lines towards the top. Ive read this is common when monitors require a cap kit, what u guys think?

It doesnt affect much games and most dont notice...but I notice. Its a G07 wich I hear where quite common on older classics so parts shouldnt be to hard to find if i need to.

Is this something I can adjust out or do i need a cap kit?

I cant really see the problem you're speaking of. Could you provide a bit more info (perhaps Im just too tired right now too :) )

In any case, be aware that the G07 is one of the oldest monitors out there. It was made in the 70's for games from the 70s and early 80's.   It seems to be very susceptable to power interference generated by newer power supplies and video signals that didn't start until linear power supplies were no loonger used and switch-mode ones were (eg PC power supplies)  You may be having problems reagarding that.  Check www.therealbobroberts.com's bulletinboard for info regarding "fixing" g07's to not have whats called flagging at the top of the screen.  See if thats what your problem is.

Actually as soon as it dies, I'd strongly suggest just getting a new chassis and throwing out (well ebaying it for $20) and then attach a new chassis with new electronics to the tube (and/or find a free 19" tv to swap a tube from).  You will probably get a much better picture than a dying G07 can give you. (and less work in the long run if you're planning on removing the g07 chassis, removing and replacing 10+ capacitors/etc..).   Check the "Whooo mama" thread on this form for more info and good pictures of what a new $65 can look like, even on an old G07's tube.

G-07 is actually one of the better monitors out ther, provided you can find one without Pac-Man burn in on it.

I recently capped the original 13" one in my Time Pilot cocktail, and it has the best picture out of any of my monitors (even with a switcher).

Yes, a cap kit should solve the "bending" issue.

The problem you have is called "keystoning" and a cap kit WILL correct it.
