Yeah I'm all about the new hdmi port.  I always thought the elite seemed a little overpriced just to have a slighty larger hdd and a port the 360 should have had in the first place.  I've waited a loong time to get a 360 because my xbox got very little play at the beginning and end of it's life cycle, but it think it's finally time.

About the red-ring deal.... You don't want m$ to do a recall if you enjoy your 360.  As rich as they are, they still loose money with every console sale and if they have to throw away every single 360 currently out (the flaw is apparently no one thing and thus there's no "quick fix" and has also existed since the first production run) and replace them free of charge then it might no longer be viable for them to stay in the gaming industry.  On the other hand, replacing only 30% and of that 30% the people who actually still have a warranty and are willing to return it... that they can swing.  The new 360s that are coming out have mb changes that are supposed to fix the red-ring issues.  Since they aren't really in the wild yet we don't know, but my guess is they wouldn't bother re-designing the 360 if it wasn't to fix these issues.  Long story short a lot of people got screwed early on and it was messed up, but they are trying to make good now.. be glad they are doing something.
