Lightgun - worth it?
« on: July 30, 2007, 02:13:48 pm »
I've been looking into adding a lightgun for my cab but was wondering what the general opinions on these are.  I am currently using a PII300Mhz, 512MB ram, 20GB HDD, with a 27" Sony TV via s-video on a 32 MB video card.  My current system only has two 8-way joys, a plethora of buttons, and a 3" trackball.

I was thinking of getting a Madcatz Blaster for the PS2 (Guncon 2 compatible, so it says) for around $30 shipped, was wondering if it was worth it.. and do I need anything else to hook it up?

Opinions, help?  Thanks...

My gut reaction would be that alot of the good gun games will probably not run fast enough on a PII 300 mhz.

I am working on getting a faster mobo+cpu ... something along the lines of an Athlon 1.8 Ghz or so... I'm more concerned about things not working w/o some weird hookup -- ie. like my video has both composite and s-video output but I am only using the s-video right now... do I have to use the composite w/ the guns I mentioned (thus necessitating the need to plug/unplug which is a pain)

Light Gun is great as long as you have the games to make it worth your while. Mame, Console Emu's, House of The Dead Series, ALG, etc... I have a couple of Act Lab Guns myself and am happy with them.
