Need 33" for Showcase cab... Need recomendations...
« on: July 29, 2007, 10:35:13 pm »
I'm picking up a Showcase cab this week without a monitor, and I'd like some suggestions on what to stick in there.  I'm wanting to run mame, and a couple other emulators, as well as possibly using it as a TV extender from my SageTV box (regular TV res), as well as using it for PSX/PS2/X360, etc.  Would i do better to stick a de-cased 32" TV in there (I have one that would probalby be a really good candidate, it's got vga, component & svid/composite inputs, but I'd need to replace it with something else as it's the wife's TV for her office :P ).

If I were to go with a real arcade monitor, I'd much rather go with something VGA capable, instead of cga/ega resolutions (for the Xbox & TV applications).  That plus I can pick up another 32 to replace her TV for about 200, where a real 33" arcade monitor is going to cost a good deal more than that.

As you can probably tell, I'm leaning more towards the TV, I'd just like a second opinion before I do it :).

Ok, I've about convinced myself I should just get a real 33" arcade monitor, so my next question is, which, and from where?  I've read a bit about the WG monitors quality issues, so I'd rather not go that way, so maybe another manufacturer?  I've looked at all the ones available at Happ, but they just appear way too expensive for an individual user to order.

Before you grab the cabinet, be sure the monitor is really available.

The 32~34 inch picture tubes that worked for resolutions above mid res, have been long out of production.

As far as I know there is not a tube to be had.

We still do special orders on CGA, but subject to availability, I think I have about 16 tubes in stock.

Good luck, just would hate to see you have the cabinet and no monitor
