Advancemame is the best! im well pleased! -

this is the wrong forum sorry! :( could someone move it to software!

ive just been messing about with advancemame 106. with my cab
and i cant believe how much better everything is running!.
i havent managed to set it up that well yet but the games i have got running look so much nicer than i had before. it only took a few minutes to get it running after using the config program, i was quite daunted by it from what i read and put off trying it out.

It takes a bit more effort but if your mainly into the slightly older stuff, its a much more solid
screen update and smooth experience than the windows version and the normal dos version.
im using a really old card with it,instead of my Arcadevga 9250, i am getting much better colours, i think its something to do with the new chips from Ati not being as colourfull as old cards, the colours are there but dont look as nice,it just looks more authentic, also its really usefull to be able to change res/colour depth and stuff while its running.

ive not got loads of resolutions so far to choose from, but nearly all games i have tried run well, even some of the racing games run much better. Arcadevga is good if you cant be bothered to messabout but this is better, its a shame its not been updated but im happy with this version and normally use .079 or .100 in dosmame

my processor is an athlon 1667mhz,
motherboard is asrock k78se+ but im going to change this a m8 has given me
something better, just gotta install it ,cos i have got some sound issue's with this board, but
when i use my other board Asus p4c800 deluxe, my sound card works, hence the change.

im using a j-pac for controls and stuff.
im using a graphics card with nvidia tnt2 chipset, but also have a matrox g400, and the arcadevga, i prefer the diamond viper 770 (tnt2 chipset)  all these old cards cost less than the postage these days, what matters to me is the quality of the output just as much as the resolutions supported!.

For testing i use a microvitec 1701 multi-sync monitor when setting up mame for the cab.

ive only just started using advancemame last night , but it worked strait away after running the advcfg.exe program and selecting 15khz video modes.
ive not got a vbe program working yet but will soon!.
ive been mainly using the auto mode and just setting the screen positions and stuff with the advv.exe prog, its the crispness of the picture and smoothness im most pleased about, i dont really know what im doing with advancemame yet!.

when i get time im going to set up all the same resolutions as the arcadevga and a few more, i'll post my .rc info for you when i can get it off the pc.

it would be good to hear about what other people have done using advancemame, you dont seem to hear about it that much as its not been updated.

i'm using advancemame versions .92.1 and .106. i use a pc monitor and don't know what 15khz mode is. i also don't have a vbe program nor how to use it. i have read about it but don't understand it fully. i think that's what advancecab is for.

with advcfg, i configured for generic pc monitor, the middle one (there's three). because advancemame is slower than dosmame, i have to optimize it for the most arcade-like experience.

device_video_doublescan YES
device_video_singlescan YES
display_buffer YES
display_magnify AUTO
display_mode AUTO ;ok for most but GENERATE-SCANLINES is preferred if possible
display_resize MIXED ;allows horizontal stretching with minimal slowdown
display_resizeeffect NONE ;any effect slows down the emu too much
display_rgbeffect SCAN2HORZ ;scanlines are the only effects i need
display_scanlines YES
display_vsync NO ;this seems to slowdown emulation so i turn on video buffering instead
sound_samplerate 22050 ;helps speed up emulation

all those tips i got from this forum and personal testing.
for resolutions between 304x224 and 320x240, i still prefer dmamepp versions .89, .92, .100.

my pc is a p3 1ghz, 256mb ram, built-in ac97 sound card (via) running dos from win98se.
