QNIC CGM2500 INFO NEEDED
« on: July 15, 2007, 08:00:36 pm »
I just picked up a QNIC CGM2500 25" monitor locally for $30.00.  It is not working.  The guy I bought it from can only say it didn' t work when he got the cabinet (Neo-Geo).  I plan on doing a CAP KIT first.  Does anyone have ANY INFO on this monitor?  I found a schematic,  but that is just about it.

I've only heard of that monitor. Never encountered one myself.

You want capkit # 605 from Zanen Electronics.

Zanen doesn't sell the flyback ...any idea where I can get one?

He mentioned that he has seen a number of these with bad flybacks.

I'll bust out the cap kit first,  but then go from there.  I do have to say there seems to be a LOT of "oily" substance around the flyback area...whatever that is?!

For flybacks try here:

http://www.hrdiemen.es/products/index.php?command=viewPage&page=homesite&language=eng-GB

Type the numbers off of the flyback itself or the manufacturer's part numbers from the monitor service manual into the search box.

Also try www.mcminone.com as they distribute not only the HR Diemen line of replacement flybacks, they also carry OEM flybacks under their original makers part numbers.

The oily splooge you see on the circuit board is from a pinhole leak in the flyback.

Would you then recommend I replace the flyback immediately or install a capkit then attempt to run the monitor first?  The only know history of this monitor is that it worked then it didn't.  Not a whole lot to go on.

If the flyback looks physically ok then I'd do a capkit first then try powering it up. It's also very likely that oily goo is from a capacitor splooging it's guts out.
